Position Overview:

The Community Health Operations Technician supports the delivery of public health services by performing operational and logistical functions essential to program continuity. This position is responsible for the safe management and timely transport of pharmaceuticals, vaccines, supplies, equipment, and materials; supporting mobile and site-based operations; and assisting with logistics during routine operations, surge activities, and emergency response situations. The role contributes to maintaining continuity, readiness, and efficiency across Community Health and Wellness Division services.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs transportation and logistical support activities for public health operations, including the movement and management of pharmaceuticals, vaccines, supplies, equipment, and materials between locations.
  • Supports mobile, site-based, and field operations by ensuring required materials are delivered, staged, and returned as needed.
  • Handles, transports, and monitors materials in accordance with established safety, handling, and storage protocols, including temperature-sensitive items when applicable.
  • Completes basic documentation related to deliveries, inventory movement, and operational activities.
  • Assists with operational readiness during surge periods, special events, and emergency response activities, including rapid redeployment or relocation of materials.
  • Maintains vehicle readiness through routine inspections, cleanliness, and reporting of maintenance or safety issues.
  • Coordinates with staff, supervisors, and program teams to support daily operational needs and address logistical issues.

Requirements

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience:

  • Six (6) months of experience in logistics, operations support, transportation, or a related field

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Valid Texas Driver License

Qualifications

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:

  • This is a full-time position funded through special revenue.
  • Typical work hours are 8 am to 5 pm, but may vary to include early mornings, evenings, weekends, or extended hours based on operational needs, special events, or emergency response activities.

Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in a combination of office, clinic, mobile, warehouse, outdoor, and community settings. The position may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, and traffic environments. Work assignments may change based on operational demands, including emergency or surge response activities.

Physical Demands:

  • This position requires the ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, lift, and carry materials and equipment of moderate weight. The employee must be able to operate vehicles and equipment safely and may be required to perform physical tasks associated with loading, unloading, and staging supplies.

Work Location:

  • Harris County Public Health: This position supports the different locations where the Community Health & Wellness Division operates, included but not limited to, Clinical Health Services clinics, Mobile Units, Community Centers, and Schools.

Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
