Why does the job exist?

 
The purpose of this position is to create a positive learning experience and setting for Nursing Assistant Students.   Will be responsible for training, coaching, mentoring and leading students in all aspects of the duties and responsibilities of a Nursing Assistant in preparation for certification.

How does it get done?

 
Instructs nursing assistant students in learning the skills of a Certified Nursing Assistant. Plans, develops, directs, evaluates and coordinates the continuing education and competencies for all Certified Nursing Assistants. Provide ongoing training, coaching, mentoring and leadership to Nursing Assistants.

Residents at a long-term care facility.

The ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
The ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, and the general public.
The willingness to handle difficult residents with patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm.
The ability to function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel and support agencies.

Minimum Qualification

 
Certification as a Certified Medication Aide (CMA), Home Health Aide (HHA), or Certified Nursing Aide (CNA) and one (1) year of experience providing services in a traditional long term care facility and/or as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field above certification requirements and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience.

Employment Requirements

 
This position is designated as safety sensitive.  Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing.  Will be screened for tuberculosis (TB) upon hire.  Employment is subject to nationwide criminal background check pursuant to New Mexico Caregivers Criminal Screening Act (Sections 29-17-2 through 29-17-5 NMSA 1978 and 7.1.9.1 through 7.1.9.11 NMAC) and is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

 
Works throughout the nursing service area (i.e., nurses' stations, resident rooms, etc.).
Moves intermittently during working hours.
Is subject to frequent interruptions.
Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc.,
Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.
Communicates with the medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department directors.
Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.).
Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc.,

State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.

Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
