About this position:
The Colorado State Public Health Laboratory performs more than three million tests a year—detecting outbreaks, identifying environmental contaminants, screening every newborn in the state, and standing ready for bioterrorism or chemical threats. We’re hiring a Business Technology Liaison (Administrator III) to power the technology backbone that makes all of that possible. This is not routine IT support. This is high-stakes, mission-critical infrastructure. You will serve as the laboratory’s primary technology authority and liaison to the Office of Information Technology (OIT), ensuring systems are secure, compliant, modern, and relentlessly reliable.
In this role, you own the lab’s technology ecosystem—governance, service management, escalation, budgets, procurement, contracts, lifecycle planning, and modernization strategy. You analyze service desk trends before they become failures. You escalate smartly and decisively. You manage vendor relationships with authority. You coordinate connectivity and data risks related to laboratory instruments and ensure system onboarding or replacement never disrupts testing operations. You represent the lab in statewide governance bodies and shape enterprise decisions that directly affect public health operations. When technology falters, you are the calm, strategic force that restores order.
We’re looking for a decisive, enterprise-minded leader who understands governance, can negotiate across technical and executive audiences, and thrives where operational precision meets strategic vision. You balance compliance with innovation, cost with capability, urgency with discipline. This is a visible, influential role in a mission-driven environment where your judgment protects communities statewide. If you want to modernize critical infrastructure and be the connective tissue that keeps public health running, this is your seat at the table.
What you will be doing:This position serves as the primary technology liaison for the CDPHE Laboratory, ensuring the reliable, secure, and efficient operation of information technology systems that support critical laboratory functions. The role bridges laboratory business needs with Office of Information Technology (OIT) and the CDPHE Office of Business Technology services by coordinating technology support, managing technology inventories and budgets, overseeing vendor relationships, and leading laboratory-wide technology initiatives.
OIT Liaison and Laboratory Technology Operations
Provides comprehensive laboratory IT leadership by ensuring governance and compliance with OIT standards; managing service delivery, issue resolution, and performance monitoring; overseeing technology assets, budgets, procurement, and contracts; supporting application implementation and modernization; and coordinating technology and connectivity considerations for laboratory instruments to ensure reliable, secure, and forward-looking operations.
- IT Governance, Compliance & Representation
- Service Management, Issue Resolution & Performance Monitoring
- Technology Asset Management & Lifecycle Planning (Non-Instrument)
- IT Financial Oversight, Procurement & Contract Management
- Laboratory Instrument Technology Coordination (Non-Owner Role)
Coordinates and represents laboratory technology operations to ensure secure, reliable, and efficient systems by managing inventories and improvement initiatives; serving as an escalation partner for complex issues; supporting enterprise technology governance; and collaborating with instrument integration partners to anticipate, mitigate, and prevent technology connectivity, and data risks associated with instrument onboarding and replacement.
- Coordinates laboratory-wide technology inventories, initiatives, and improvement efforts to ensure reliable, secure, and efficient technology operations.
- Serves as the escalation point for complex or cross-cutting technology issues and works closely with the Information Technology Director to resolve problems affecting departmental technology support.
- Supports department-wide technology governance bodies and represents the laboratory in statewide technology workgroups to ensure alignment with enterprise standards and initiatives.
- Coordinates with the Instrument Integration Specialist to evaluate and communicate downstream technology, connectivity, and data risks associated with aging, replacement, or newly acquired instruments.
- Supports cross-functional planning and mitigation efforts to ensure instrument replacement or onboarding does not disrupt laboratory systems, data flows, or testing operations.
