Business and Finance Officer II

Our ideal candidate will demonstrate the following (Minimum):

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
• Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
• Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to build and maintain effective, collaborative working relationships.

• Valid Driver’s License.

The most competitive applicants will have the following experiences and qualifications (Desired): 

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance preferred.
• Eagerness to learn and grow professionally within the role.
• Experience in governmental or nonprofit accounting, budgeting, and finance.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local audit requirements for grants, contracts, and public funding.
• Proven experience reconciling balance sheet accounts and performing financial analysis.
• Experience working with internal and external auditors, including supporting audits and monitoring visits.
• Proficiency with accounting and financial reporting systems such as PeopleSoft, Oracle/EBS, or similar platforms.
• Familiarity with GAAP, GASB standards, and compliance regulations applicable to public sector finance.
• Experience in process improvement, such as Lean or other operational efficiency initiatives.
• Demonstrated ability to lead audit engagements or award recipient monitoring site visits.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and with diverse stakeholders.
• Commitment to professional growth and alignment with King County’s values, including Equity and Social Justice.
