The work you'll do is more than just a job.

At the State of Minnesota, employees play a critical role in developing policies, providing essential services, and working to improve the well-being and quality of life for all Minnesotans. The State of Minnesota is committed to equity and inclusion, and invests in employees by providing benefits, support resources, and training and development opportunities.

Join Our Impactful Team at the Minnesota Department of Health!

Are you ready to make a real difference for all Minnesotans? The Minnesota Department of Health’s Financial Management Division is seeking a talented and motivated Budget Operations Supervisor to lead our financial oversight and help shape the future of public health in Minnesota!

As a key member of our team, you’ll oversee the management of our $580 million annual budget, ensuring that grants, contracts, and funds are handled with precision and integrity. You’ll supervise the Budget Operations Unit, guiding budget setup, monitoring, and reporting in SWIFT, and ensuring compliance with federal and state standards.

Working as the Budget Operations Supervisor, you will:

  • Maintain a clear and efficient chart of accounts.
  • Assure that all budgeting, spending, and reporting transactions are accurately recorded in the state accounting system.
  • Assure that federal, state, and non-governmental standards are met in funding applications, grant awards, and gift acceptance forms.
  • Review and verify that program and grant managers have access to timely financial status reports.
  • Direct related financial activities such as intra-agency billing.
  • Adhere to applicable laws, rules, policies, and guidelines.
  • Provide clear and effective communication with departmental staff and federal agency contacts.

The Telework Policy exempts employees who live more than 50 miles from their primary work location from the 50% in-office requirement to help the State of Minnesota benefit from top talent in every corner of the state.

MDH relies heavily on grant funding, in addition to state appropriated dollars.  As an agency, we continually monitor funding levels and navigate some degree of uncertainty to grant cycles and the impact of the grant funding on program priorities.  This position is currently funded and approved to be filled.  While the position is funded, at this time, future funding is dependent on the continuation of our funding sources.  The Minnesota Department of Health works proactively to sustain programs and maintain our workforce, to avoid reductions in force to the very best of our ability.  In the event of a loss of funding resulting in a necessary workforce reduction, that process is governed by our collective bargaining agreements and compensation plans.
