The New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute provides care to New Mexicans across six different divisions including hospital level inpatient psychiatric care for both civil and forensic commitments, residential treatment for adolescents, outpatient care for people with behavioral health disorders, detox and residential substance use treatment, and skilled/long-term care. As the largest behavioral health complex in the state, inpatient/residential care is provided to over 250 New Mexicans every day, along with 400 outpatient clients a month. There are over 600 employees across all the divisions of NMBHI to ensure high-quality treatment and care is delivered.

Why does the job exist?

 
The Assistant Director of Nursing helps ensure that all residents receive high quality care and treatment. This position assists in hiring and training all nursing and CNA staff and provides ongoing supervision and support. This position ensures that all CMS and Joint Commission standards are met or exceeded. This position makes regular rounds on each unit to ensure that resident's are receiving the proper care and staff and supported. This position assists with quality assurance/performance improvement including identifying goals and areas to improve, as well as providing ongoing monitoring and support. This position participates in meetings and committees both for Meadows and as needed across NMBHI.

How does it get done?

 
Supervise Nurses and CNAs.
Participate in morning meetings to provide leadership and guidance for any issues that arise.
Round on the units and interact with the residents and staff.
Participate in care planning and monitoring.
Participate in CMS and Joint Commission surveys -help complete any plans of correction and ongoing monitoring as necessary. Recruit and interview employees.

Who are the customers?

 
This job provides support for all residents at Meadows long-term care facility.

Ideal Candidate

 
The ideal candidate would have:

-Experience working in Skilled/Long-term care facilities.
-Experience supervising nurses and CNAs.
-Experience working on multidisciplinary teams.
-Experience with CMS and Joint Commission surveys.
-Strong leadership skills to provide guidance and support for large teams.
-Ability to prioritize tasks and identify needs independently and in coordination with the leadership team.

Minimum Qualification

 
Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico, or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements, or eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico and two (2) years of management experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Must obtain a defensive driving certificate.

Employment is conditional pending the results of criminal records background checks. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Successful completion of the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Working Conditions

 
Office like setting with some time spent interacting with the residents. May be exposed to residents with dementia or other diagnoses that may lead to unpredictable behavior.
