Why does the job exist?

 
This position serves as an Admissions Clerk for New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute (NMBHI) and plays a critical role in offering great customer service to our facility, vendors, clients, and patients.
The Admissions Clerk coordinates admissions and assists with identifying/securing inpatient benefits for adult/adolescent psychiatric services as well as Long Term Care. The Admissions Clerk will communicate with referring facilities, families, and agencies and obtain information as needed by the Admissions Coordinator.

How does it get done?

 
-Assist in the admissions for all inpatient areas.
-Compile health records, court documents, financial data, for new admissions and enter data into database.
-Communicate synergized data to clinical professionals and prepare admissions "facesheets" for the clinicians.
-Coordinate referrals with hospital staff to determine feasibility of admission based on bed availability and nature of individual's situation.
-Interview admitted individuals (face-to-face) and accurately record and audit entry of individual's demographics.
-Works cohesively with Accountant to determine insurance coverage eligibility for third party payment.
-Communicate daily with Social Security Administration, insurance companies, families, Powers of Attorney, etc.

Ideal Candidate

 
The ideal candidate is self-motivated, detail oriented, accurate, and takes a positive and professional approach to their role. This candidate can work in high stress environments; has a working knowledge of third-party payers; is well organized; and has an aptitude for continual interaction with public/private entities, clinical staff, and families. The ideal candidate has experience building rapport with individuals, detailed and accurate documentation, and a knowledge of the SHARE FINANCIAL system. This candidate has excellent time management skills with the ability to work in a heavy volume environment with multiple and diverse groups of clients and is a confident communicator.
Experience in providing excellent customer service.
Experience with building strong/productive working relationships.
Experience with conflict resolution and interacting with the public.
Experience with organizing daily operations and providing feedback to senior management.

Minimum Qualification

 
Eighth grade education.

Employment Requirements

 
Must possess a current driver's license.

Working Conditions

 
This position will perform work in a behavioral health setting to include prolonged standing, walking, stooping, bending & lifting.
