This position plays a vital role in connecting individuals and families to essential public health services. The incumbent conducts client interviews, determines eligibility for multiple health programs—including WIC—and provides education, referrals, and support while ensuring strict confidentiality and compliance with state and federal regulations. The role combines meaningful client interaction, accurate data and record management, and collaboration with community partners, while also contributing to emergency preparedness efforts. Requirements

Two years of experience in administrative services.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 15 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as six months of experience.

  • Determines programmatic and financial eligibility for Office of Public Health programs by conducting client interviews and applying federal and state laws, policies, regulations, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Screens, interviews, and assists applicants, including WIC Program participants, ensuring accurate eligibility determinations, timely updates to electronic systems (EHR and LaWIN WIC), and strict adherence to confidentiality requirements.
  • Educates clients and participants on available public health services, nutrition benefits, program requirements, and fee policies, and provides referrals to appropriate internal and external agencies.
  • Assesses, collects, and documents fees for billable services using Electronic Health Record systems, ensuring proper interpretation of fee schedules, compliance with income guidelines, and accurate third-party billing and reimbursement.
  • Maintains secure, accurate, and compliant records by safeguarding confidential data, researching and verifying client information across systems, preventing record duplication, and managing records in accordance with retention and purge requirements.
  • Provides administrative and customer service support by greeting visitors, managing appointments, handling phone inquiries, completing reports and correspondence, and serving as back-up Deputy Registrar of Vital Records when assigned.
  • Participates in emergency preparedness and outreach activities, including disaster response, immunization drills, community outreach initiatives, and other duties necessary to support public health operations on a local and statewide basis.
