Step into a high-impact accounting role at the forefront of public service! This position supports the financial operations of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Disability Determination Services (DDS)—two major federally funded programs transitioning to the Louisiana Department of Health. As a key member of the Medicaid and SNAP/DDS Financial Reporting Unit, you’ll take the lead on federal drawdowns, grant reconciliation, and financial reporting that directly supports vital services for communities across the state.

In this role, you’ll leverage your expertise in governmental accounting to manage federal cash requests, ensure compliance with grant requirements, and maintain audit-ready financial records. You’ll collaborate with leadership to analyze grant activity, prepare critical federal reports, and safeguard the integrity of funding by preventing questioned costs. Requirements

Three years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR

Six years of full-time experience in any field plus twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR

A bachelor’s degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR

A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics; OR

An advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics; OR

Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

  • Prepare and process SNAP and DDS federal drawdowns in PMS, ASAP, and other portals. Verify alignment between draws and reported expenditures. Coordinate with AM2 and AM3 to ensure timely cash flow   
  • Reconcile drawdowns to grant expenditures in LaGov. Identify, investigate, and resolve variances. Maintain documentation for audit readiness and support financial transparency
  • Assist AM2 with preparing and validating require reports such as SF-425, FNS-778, and SSA-4513. Ensure compliance with SSA and USDA FNS guidance and 2 CFR 200.
  • Monitor grant activity to ensure allowable costs, proper budget execution, and internal control compliance. Support development of procedures and corrective actions.
  • Mentor junior staff. Provide technical assistance on drawdowns, reconciliation, and reporting systems. Assist in developing job aids and SOPs

Compensation:  This position is eligible for the following Special Entrance Rates (SER):

Accountant 1 - $21.63 hr / $1,730.40 bi-weekly

Accountant 2 - $23.14 hr / $1,851.20 bi-weekly

Accountant 3 - $26.50 hr / $2,120.00 bi-weekly
