Requirements

Three years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR

Six years of full-time experience in any field plus twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR

A bachelor’s degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR

A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics; OR

An advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics; OR

Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

  • Prepares complex vendor and provider accounts payable documents, journal vouchers, and refund requests for entry into the State’s Financial Systems, ensuring accurate classification and compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Processes professional service contracts, interagency transfers, and other payments; researches and resolves processing errors; and determines when journal entries or corrective actions are required.
  • Conducts accounting research and analysis, maintains detailed financial records and reports, and prepares internal reports using specialized software to support management needs.
  • Reviews and approves financial transactions, analyzes rejected payment documents, and exercises independent judgment to validate, correct, or resubmit transactions as necessary.
  • Generates and reconciles system reports (issued, voided, cancelled, replaced, and outstanding checks) and maintains comprehensive vendor payment files to ensure a complete audit trail.
  • Collaborates with state agencies, auditors, and department officials to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, support audits, strengthen internal controls, and assist with training and process improvements.

Compensation:  This position is eligible for the following Special Entrance Rates (SER):

Accountant 1 - $21.63 hr / $1,730.40 bi-weekly

Accountant 2 - $23.14 hr / $1,851.20 bi-weekly

Accountant 3 - $26.50 hr / $2,120.00 bi-weekly

Accountant 4 – 30.35 hr / $2,428.00 bi-weekly
