Join a high-impact accounting role on the Louisiana Department of Health’s Travel team, where your work supports financial operations across the state’s largest agency with a multi-billion-dollar budget. In this dynamic position, you’ll manage and oversee travel and petty cash transactions for all LDH programs, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations while utilizing the LaGov ERP system. With opportunities to collaborate across agencies and exercise independent judgment, this role offers a unique blend of responsibility, visibility, and meaningful contribution to statewide operations.

Requirements

Three years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR

Six years of full-time experience in any field plus twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR

A bachelor’s degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR

A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics; OR

An advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics; OR

Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties:

 - Audit and process contract travel reimbursements, employee travel reimbursements, and other reimbursable business expenses in accordance with state and LDH policies 

·  Review and approve travel-related payments to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable guidelines 

·  Perform monthly audits of LDH CBA Travel Card activity, analyze reports, and resolve discrepancies to ensure compliance and detect potential fraud 

·  Review, process, and reconcile accounting records for the permanent Travel and Petty Cash Imprest Fund 

·  Provide guidance to employees and external customers on travel requests to ensure accurate submission and adherence to State Travel Guidelines (PPM49) 

·  Communicate effectively with agency personnel and customers regarding inquiries on payments and financial transactions within the Travel section 

·  Conduct accounting research and analysis to support compliance and resolve complex financial issues 

·  Maintain accurate financial records and prepare reports to support auditing and reconciliation processes 

·  Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and ensure compliance 

·   Draft, update, and maintain Travel procedures to support consistent and effective daily operations

Accountant 3 - $26.50 hr / $2,120.00 bi-weekly
