This posting will be used for on-going recruitment and may close at any time. Applicant lists may be screened more than once. New Mexico Rehabilitation Center (NMRC) is a Joint Commission accredited specialty hospital providing rehabilitation services to citizens of the State of New Mexico.

Why does the job exist?

 
Provides speech-language-cognitive, or dysphagia treatment of adult (18 and older) inpatients and outpatients, with occasional treatment of inpatients or outpatients younger than 18 within demonstrated competence.

How does it get done?

 
Provides comprehensive evaluation within defined scope and competence, establishes treatment plan, and provides direct intervention as appropriate. Participates in discharge planning: initiating within a reasonable time, discussing goals with patients, families, physicians, and Center Staff as appropriate.  Communicates effectively with departmental therapists and other appropriate team members about the patient's progress (or lack of) towards goals, and any possible need for adjustment to goals. Completes all required documentation in a timely manner, and with expected content and quality. Assists with Facility wide training and competence development of other staff as directed by the Director of Rehabilitative Services.

Who are the customers?

 
All patients referred to NMRC for  speech/language rehabilitation.

Ideal Candidate

 
Experience preferred but not required. Knowledge of equipment utilized in the diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of speech pathology. Good communication skills and a commitment to team dynamics.

Minimum Qualification

 
Licensed as a Speech Language Pathologist by the State of New Mexico and two (2) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field above licensure requirements and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.

Employment Requirements

 
This position is designated a safety sensitive. Must successfully complete post offer preemployment criminal records background check is conditional pending results of criminal background check. Employment is subject to preemployment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Successful completion of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Working Conditions

 
Work is performed in a Rehabilitation Hospital setting, involving extended periods of walking, sitting, standing, and bending. Exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some travel may be required. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. May be required to work weekends, holidays, and overtime.
