Sanitary Services Supervisor

MOS: None

Education and ExperienceBachelor's Degree or higher with at least 30 semester hours of basic or applied science and two (2) years of professional sanitarian experience as a Registered Sanitarian and one (1) year of supervisory experience.
 
Licenses and Certificates:  Texas Sanitarian Registration by time of appointment. Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state.

Requirements

Under direction, conducts consumer and environmental health monitoring, inspections, investigations, sampling and surveys and supervises an assigned geographical area to assure protection of the public health and compliance with applicable laws, ordinances, policies, procedures, rules and regulations.

Qualifications

Plan, coordinate, assign and review the inspection, investigation, enforcement and documentation of public health and compliance. Involves: Conduct routine monitoring, inspections, investigations, sampling and surveys of public and private facilities, nuisances and hazards for compliance with local, state and federal laws, ordinances, rules and regulations pertaining to consumer, environmental and/or public health, or schedules and supervises same performed by subordinates. Handle, collect and sample agents or objects that may be harmful to human health or the environment, or schedules and supervises same subordinates.
Complete administrative functions. Involves: Make presentations to business, civic and community groups regarding consumer, environmental and public health activities and enlists public cooperation in reaching desired objectives. Prepare edits and approve reports required in ensuring compliance with health laws, ordinances, rules and regulations dealing with specific consumer and environmental health programs. Provide and conduct supervision, training, guidance and performance evaluation of assigned subordinates. Conduct public education/information presentations in assigned area of expertise regarding consumer, environmental and public health laws, ordinances, policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Represent the health department in court proceedings or hearings concerning noncompliance issues. Monitor and conduct surveillance for consumer, environmental and public health concerns. Supervise assigned program staff and associated activities.
Supervise assigned personnel. Involves: Schedule, assign, instruct, guide and check work. Appraise employee performance. Provide for training and development. Enforce personnel rules and regulations and work behavior standards firmly and impartially. Counsel, motivate and maintain harmony. Interview applicants. Recommend hiring, termination, transfers, discipline, merit pay or other employee status changes.
