As a Public Health Educator 3 within the West Central Health District at the Georgia Department of Public Healthyou will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.

Requirements

This position will be housed in Columbus, GA and is Not a Remote position.  You will support the Department by utilizing your expertise to fulfill the following responsibilities:
  • Support the West Central Health District’s Opioid Prevention Program across 16 counties. 
  • Build and maintain partnerships with EMS, fire, law enforcement, hospitals, epidemiology, emergency preparedness, and community organizations.
  • Facilitate enrollment and training of first responder agencies in the Overdose Detection Mapping Application Program (ODMAP) and BioSpatial systems.
  • Support overdose cluster investigations and response planning in collaboration with the District Epidemiologist and DPH Drug Surveillance Unit.
  • Develop, maintain, and update a district-level overdose outbreak response plan and opioid strategic plan.
  • Develop and implement a District RX Disruption Response Plan to address prescription-related overdose threats and disruptions in opioid prescribing patterns.
  • Create and maintain an up-to-date resource list of prevention and treatment providers across the district.
  • Participate in local opioid-related initiatives, including coalition or task force meetings, presentations, and community engagement activities.
  • Provide community presentations related to opioid prevention, treatment, harm reduction, or response.
  • Submit all required reports, including monthly activity reports, a district workplan, budget summary, and final strategic documents on time.
  • Assist with identifying high-risk populations or areas for targeted intervention.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the District Health Director to support opioid prevention and response goals.


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in education, social, behavioral, or biological sciences or a directly related field from an accredited college or university AND Two (2) years of experience in public health education OR One (1) year of experience at the lower-level Health Educator 2 (HCP031) or position equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree with public health, law enforcement, emergency medical services, and healthcare knowledge or experience. Previous participation in new program developments; development of a strategic plan; at least 2 years experience working in public health, law enforcement, emergency medical services, or healthcare fields. Provided key support for a state or regional opioid or substance use/overdose response program. Successfully assisted developing workgroups that have or need to develop focused goals and objectives.
Georgia Department of Public Health Commissioner and leaders encourages all employees to engage in regular physical activities and to make lifestyle choices that promote health and well-being. Current State employees are subject to State Personnel Board rules regarding salary.

DPH accepts educational credential recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) will be considered. DPH will contact educational institutions to verify degree, diploma, licensure, etc.
