Psychiatric Aide 1-2
This vacancy is located in the Nursing Department of Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System in Jackson, LA (East Feliciana Parish). ELMHS is the largest 24-hour, multi-site, state psychiatric complex, comprised of residential, outpatient and inpatient services.
This position performs responsible non-professional nursing support work, which involves assisting in creating and maintaining a therapeutic environment for patients.

45% Gives and receives reports on clients at change of shift, accepts client care assignments for assigned shift. Maintains a therapeutic environment, correctly identifies client’s growth and development stages, and communicates according to level of understanding, stage of growth and development. Ensures client’s safety and observation assigned to clients during escort; provides accountability of assigned client at all times; documents patient location; assist patient with activities of daily living, personal clothing care, daily household chores and feeding, and ensures all eating utensils are accounted for and assists clients and other staff with maintaining a clean environment. Assists licensed staff with organizing medication administration. Observation of clients for compliance and notifies LPN when non-compliance is suspected.
40% Participates in Treatment Team meetings, provides nursing input and notifies appropriate personnel when client’s condition or behavior changes. Performs routine nursing duties according to level of competency and within licensure guidelines and documents findings or client’s response accurately and timely. Assist with admission, transfer, discharge, elopement and pass procedures and initiates or responds to codes according to level of competency, type code procedures.
10% Maintains open communication with supervisors, reports accidents, injuries according to policy and procedure and participates willingly in investigations, provides incident reports when appropriate.
5% Participate in education trainings that are mandatory for accreditation and licensure of the facility. Perform all other duties assigned by supervisor/designee to maintain continuity and quality, accreditation and licensure requirements. Perform all other duties assigned by supervisor, but not listed, for the smooth operation of the unit/building and/or the facility. Maintains current and unencumbered motor vehicle license. Adheres to all rules, regulations, policies and procedures of LDH, OBH, Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System, and Civil Service.
Position-Specific Details:
As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Psychiatric Aide 1 or Psychiatric Aide 2, depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). The maximum annual salary for the Psychiatric Aide 2 is $33,883.
