Operating Engineer 1-2
This Vacancy is located in the Maintenance Department of Eastern Louisiana Mental Hospital System in Jackson, LA (East Feliciana Parish). ELMHS is the largest 24-hour, multi-site, state psychiatric complex, comprised of residential, outpatient and inpatient services.
Requirements
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
For those positions in which incumbents will be working with and handling refrigerants, possession of an appropriate EPA refrigerant recycling and recovery certification for technicians will be required (as required under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act, 1990).

60% Responsible for the proper operation, regulating, monitoring, servicing, and maintaining the ELMHS Boiling Room with two 500 horse-powered natural gas powered. Boiler room equipment is maintained at peak efficiency to meet all safety requirements as set by the Safety Committee, Fire Marshall, and Boiler Inspection. The Boiler Room is operated and maintained on a 24/7 basis and must be physically maintained at all times. Maintains and operates Boiler Room equipment by regulating water level, adjusting air flow, adding chemicals (after testing), starting and stopping the pumps. Tests are made on boiler feed water every 8 hours. Boilers are blown every 8 hours. The Boiler Room machinery room is checked every hour. Gauges are checked every hour for water level, steam pressure, and operation of valves and pumps
35% Makes repairs on all electrical and mechanical equipment in the Boiler Room and performs preventative maintenance involving: repairing, greasing, oiling, changing filters and belts, and painting and cleaning. Maintains all log books which detail the operation of boilers and lists all maintenance performed.
5% Participate in education trainings that are mandatory for accreditation and licensure of the facility.
Must possess and maintain a valid, unencumbered driver’s license.
Perform all other duties assigned by supervisor/designee to maintain continuity and quality, accreditation and licensure requirements. Perform all other duties assigned by supervisor, but not listed, for the smooth operation of the unit/building and/or the facility.
Adheres to all rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of LDH, OBH, Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System, Civil Service and the ELMHS Maintenance Department.
