Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated individual to perform the duties of Office Coordinator Option 2. Under direction, serves as a lead worker. Provides complex, specialized office support functions and answers questions of support and professional staff within the Section.

Essential Functions

  • Serves as lead worker of support staff within the Communicable Disease Control Section.
  • Assists Communicable Disease Control Section staff by receiving, reviewing and maintaining pending files of laboratory reports from various private laboratories, other state health departments, in addition to notifying regional staff or local health departments of diseases needing follow-up.
  • Maintains ongoing rabies database for positive results by year and county for the Section by receiving and reviewing on a daily basis, all incoming animal rabies lab reports.
  • Participates in ongoing data quality tasks by reviewing IDSS records for accuracy, finding and adjusting duplicate records, and ensuring that every case is classified appropriately.
  • Assists Communicable Disease Control Section staff by compiling and sending assignments to local health department staff regarding reports of diseases which are pending and in need of investigation.
  • Serves as designated lead worker.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned that are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to two years of secretarial/business college, or completion of high school and two years of related office experience, or two years of independent business experience.
  • Requires the ability to keyboard accurately at 30 words per minute.
