Why does the job exist?

 
This position performs duties as ¿Preceptor¿ and/or ¿Senior¿ Unit Nurse Aide. Incumbent will provide on-going training, coaching, mentoring and leadership to Certified Nursing Assistants. This position will provide sub-professional direct personal nursing care and related support to long-term care facility residents. Incumbent will participate in maintaining quality direct nursing aide care to, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric age residents at the facility.

How does it get done?

 
Answer patient call signals, signal lights, bells, or intercom systems to determine patients' needs. 
Turn or reposition bedridden patients. 
Provide physical support to assist patients to perform daily living activities, such as getting out of bed, bathing, dressing, using the toilet, standing, walking, or exercising. 
Review patients' dietary restrictions, food allergies, and preferences to ensure patient receives appropriate diet. 
Measure and record food and liquid intake or urinary and fecal output, reporting changes to medical or nursing staff
Provide on-going training, coaching, mentoring and leadership to Certified Nursing Assistants.

Ideal Candidate

 
Will have:
The ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
The ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
The willingness to handle difficult residents with patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm.
The ability to function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel and support agencies.
Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of team work and team concept.

Minimum Qualification

 
Certification as a Certified Medication Aide (CMA), Home Health Aide (HHA), or Certified Nursing Aide (CNA) and one (1) year of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience.

Employment Requirements

 
This position is designated safety sensitive.  Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing.  Employment is conditional pending results of criminal background check.  Successful completion of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) training is required.

Working Conditions

 
Works throughout the nursing service area (i.e., drug rooms, nurses¿ stations, resident rooms, etc.).
Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, and visitors.
Communicates with nursing personnel and other department personnel.
Works beyond normal working hours, on weekends and holidays.
Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc.,

State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (¿CMS¿), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.

Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
