EMS Field Coordinator

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of Public Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical and Trauma Services is seeking an EMS Field Coordinator to join our team!

The EMS Field Coordinator serves as a vital liaison between the Bureau of Emergency Medical and Trauma Services and local EMS programs across Iowa. This position performs on-site inspections of EMS service programs to ensure compliance with statutory and administrative rules and provides technical consultation and assistance on system development, continuous quality improvement, and strategic planning. The coordinator supports EMS services and clinicians by offering guidance on regulatory compliance, facilitates data collection and reporting. Additionally, this role involves representing the Bureau at meetings and conferences, instructing courses and continuing education, assisting in rule and document revisions, and developing EMS-related reports and communications. The position requires flexibility to accommodate volunteer service schedules and travel statewide, often including evenings and weekends.

Requirements

179 Emergency Medical Services:
6 months’ experience in one or in a combination of more than one of the following: 
  • Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic 
  • EMT instructor/coordinator 
  • RN or LPN providing pre-hospital emergency medical care 
  • Physician’s assistant if pre-hospital emergency medical care was provided
OR
12 semester hours in one or in a combination of more than one of the following:
  • Emergency health care 
  • Emergency medical courses
  • Advanced paramedic
  • EMT-A or EMT-1
  • Certification as an EMT/Paramedic

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with major coursework in nursing, a human services or health-oriented field, or education, or nutrition and three years of professional experience in these areas;

OR
Masters degree in nursing, public health or science, a human services or health-oriented field, or education, may be substituted for one year of the required experience;
OR
certification as a paramedic and the equivalent of three years of full-time experience as a paramedic;
OR
an equivalent or combination of the required education and experience, totaling seven years, will be qualifying.
