Corrections Guard Therapeutic
VFMC is a specialized 24-hour medical facility operating with 150-175 staffed beds, with a license capacity of 299 beds. All beds are licensed as hospital beds. The facility operates a small hospital care service that is surveyed by health standards using hospital licensing requirements, with the remainder of the facility surveyed annually under CMS and state standards for nursing facility care. Specialized units include 37 beds for acute and subacute care including a ventilator care and wound care service, and the only inpatient tuberculosis program in the state. Provide services to approximately 10 ELMHS/Forensic residents assigned to Sick Bay. The facility is staffed with a table of organization of 216 classified positions and 20+ unclassified positions with a budget in excess of $25 million.
The physical plant consists of three patient care buildings, administrative building, activity buildings, support service buildings, staff residences, and a variety of storage and special purpose structures, located on a 157-acre site with its own fresh water system, sewer system, chiller and boiler systems, and electrical distribution system. This facility has control of passage with a security gate at entrance.
Requirements
Six months of experience in a forensic, behavioral, correctional, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, clinical care or rehabilitation of offenders.NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

This position serves as a Corrections Guard Therapeutic in the Security Department at Villa Feliciana Medical Complex, an acute and long-term care hospital whose mission is to operate health care programs which provide medical care and treatment for residents with acute, subacute, and chronic illnesses and/or disabilities resulting from trauma or genetic defects.
70% Check identification of persons seeking access to facility. Provide direction, information and assistance in a tactful and helpful manner.
Follows facility policy in controlling and preventing contraband on facility grounds including residents, employees and visitors.
Issues car tags to employees and visitors.
Log in traffic entering or leaving the facility.
Log in resident visitors and inform ward or arrival.
Inform employee of visitors. Inform visitors of time limit on visit.
Give directions for new admits. Inform Medical Records of arrival.
Search all vehicles entering and/or leaving the facility grounds.
Perform security checks of facility grounds, all buildings and parking lots periodically. Refer problems to proper authority.
Follow procedures for searching residents living area.
Assures gates and doors are locked according to policy.
Check all buildings to be sure locked after 4:30 pm.
Enforce speed limit on grounds. Issues citation, when necessary, on hospital grounds.
Issue and/or receive departmental keys, newspaper, Security log and other information to/from appropriate personnel.
Opens gate at 5:00 am and closes gate at 7:00 pm.
Log mileage of Security vehicle at end of day.
Answers the VFMC main phone line and transfers and/or directs all phone calls.
Issues state cell phone to Transportation drivers and maintains issuance logs.
Notify Administration, Nursing, Social Services, and Maintenance of all visitors, vendors, contractors, etc.
Performs periodic resident checks nightly throughout the night on assigned building.
15% Attend mandatory meetings and in-services.
Transport patients to and from hospitals, clinics, courts, doctor’s offices, etc.
Transport residents on facility grounds.
Wash and vacuum Security vehicle.
Investigate complaints of theft, disorderly conduct, vehicle accident(s) or traffic violations. Files report to supervisor.
Investigate vehicle accidents, state or employee. Files report to supervisor.
10% Assist in search for lost patient(s).
Respond to Security calls when necessary.
Respond to hostile situations that may regard a resident.
Respond to fire alarms.
Issue supplies as needed.
Issues death certificate to funeral home, assist in completion of form and give directions to pick up the body.
5% Supervises, instructs and trains prisoners assigned to work detail on Villa Feliciana Medical Complex grounds. Monitors and keeps count of inmates during the day and assigns inmates to work crews.
Monitors inmates during lunch and other breaks during the day.
Escorts and transports inmates to and from the correctional facility each day.
Perform other related duties in order to maintain a smooth operation of the facility.
Position-Specific Details:
This vacancy is located in Jackson, Louisiana at LDH/OAAS/Villa Feliciana Medical Complex in the SECURITY DEPARTMENT and may be filled as a probational hire or promotion of a permanent state employee. The shifts are 12-hour shifts with rotating weekends.
Benefits of working as a Corrections Guard—Therapeutic/Trainee at VFMC include flexible work hours, paid holidays, and paid time off. This position also offers premium pay for hours worked. (Retention/Longevity and Market Conditions).This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) as follows:
Corrections Guard Therapeutic, the SER is $16.22/hour or $1,297.60/biweekly
