Why does the job exist?

 
The Certified Nursing Aide Guide will perform day-to-day activities in meal preparation, laundry, and housekeeping of the kitchen, common areas, and resident rooms. Will direct, train, discipline and evaluate employees working in the homes they are assigned to. Assist in ensuring systems and procedures are functioning as designed and that the teams have the resources, training, information, and support necessary to be successful in their duties and work cohesively with everyone.

How does it get done?

 
The Certified Nursing Aide Guide will provide and maintain care of residents to help them improve their overall well-being by assisting with resident care, care plan implementation. Train, direct, discipline, and evaluate employees under their direct supervision. Make well-informed, effective, and timely decisions and perceive the impact and implications of those decisions. Listen effectively and clarify information as needed communicating, both verbally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner. Record and report pertinent information on progress notes, incident reports, and census reports.

Who are the customers?

 
The primary customer are the brave men and women that answered our nations call, executed their duties and now are unable to live in their respective communities due to failing health.  This job will also support the widows of the service men and women to include parents that have lost children in combat (Gold Star Parents)

Ideal Candidate

 
Experience with Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI), state survey process, handling of lab specimens, transporting patience to and from appointments and outings.
Two (2) years' experience as a Certified Nursing Aide
One (1) year of supervisory experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.

Minimum Qualification

 
High school diploma or equivalent, certification as a Nursing Aide (CNA), and one and a half (1.5) years of experience providing basic dietary, housekeeping, and/or laundry services in a traditional long term care facility and/or as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field above certification requirements and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one and a half (1.5) years may substitute for the required experience.

Employment Requirements

 
Must possess and maintain a current Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate from the State of New Mexico

This position is designated safety sensitive.  Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules, and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing.

Must possess and maintain a valid American Heart Association BLS / CPR Certification

Employment is subject to criminal background check pursuant to New Mexico Caregivers Criminal Screening Act, (Sections 29-17-2 through 29-17-5 NMSA 1978 and 7.1.9.1 through 7.1.9.11 NMAC) and is conditional pending results.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. 

Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Must possess and maintain a valid Safe Food Handling Certificate or receive within 1 week of date of hire.

Successful completion of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) training.

Must sign and observe confidentiality agreement.

Must be able to read, write, speak and comprehend the English language.

Occasional travel for training & meetings and driving a State of NM owned motor vehicle may be required; Working hours may include weekends, holidays, overtime, and callback hours. Essential functions of the job and specific physical ability requirements will be available at the time of interview or may be obtained at the New Mexico Veterans' Home Human Resources office.

Working Conditions

 
Work is performed in a long-term care facility and office setting with exposure to visual/video display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage.  Walking, standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, sitting and bending over are routine physical efforts required by the job. The ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds and the use of various types of medical equipment, computers and manual documentation.  Sitting at a computer and entering data is necessary at times. Use of copier, telephone, and fax machine. Incumbent may be required to drive a State-owned vehicle.  Incumbent may be exposed to physical and verbal abuse from residents, moderate noise levels and stressful situations.  Health hazards include routine exposure to resident illness blood and bodily fluids.  and potential for chemical sensitivity exist related to repeated us of latex gloves, disinfectant agents, wound dressing medications or chemicals.  Overtime is an essential function of this positions. Essential functions of the job and physical ability requirements will be available at the time of interview or may be obtained at the New Mexico Veterans' Home Human Resources.
