The Office of School and Adolescent Health (OSAH) provides resources and technical assistance to educational staff, physical and behavioral health professionals, and youth serving community organizations to help them develop sustainable health systems for children and youth in schools and communities. This is accomplished by supporting integrated healthcare services to school-aged youth through school-based health centers; improving adolescent behavioral health to reduce the incidence of youth suicide; supporting statewide school nursing and school behavioral health efforts; and promoting Positive Youth Development and youth resiliency.

Why does the job exist?

 
The Office of School and Adolescent Health (OSAH) Epidemiologist will provide surveillance and epidemiology data to develop, plan, implement and evaluate positive youth development, school health services, school-based health centers and adolescent behavioral health programs provided by OSAH.

How does it get done?

 
The position will be responsible for collecting adolescent health, school health, school-based health center and adolescent behavioral health data; disseminating results of key information as it pertains to adolescent health; as well as analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating selected program data as necessary.

Who are the customers?

 
The customers served by this position are two-fold. The first is for OSAH in order to determine program effectiveness and provide necessary information to guide data-driven program activities.  Also, this position will highlight and inform local, state and national partners of the key accomplishments of the OSAH.

Ideal Candidate

 
1. Five years working with data and data systems generating informational reports or brochures.
2. Five years of work with statistical programs or health related research.
3. Five years of work in a health-related field.

Minimum Qualification

 
Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Sciences, Social Sciences, or Statistics and two (2) years in Public Health to include data analysis and linking methodology. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

 
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

 
Work in an office setting with exposure to visual/video display terminal (VTD) and extensive personal computer and phone usage.  Ability to liftup to 40 lbs (bending, stooping and reaching) and meet numerous deadlines.
