Requirements

The Work Unit:
This unit exists to provide financial accounting and reporting services in support of the mission of CDPHE. The services provided include: accounts payable processing, billings and collections for fees, licenses and penalties, payroll and timekeeping, payroll cost distribution/allocation, grants financial management, grants and contracts processing, general ledger, indirect cost recovery assessment, reporting and analysis, enforcement of the state and federal fiscal rules and regulations, department policies and procedures and application of accounting standards as set forth by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). The department currently consists of staff exceeding 1,480 employees whose activities are funded by monies from over 300 sources and amounting to over $685 million annually.

What You Will Be Doing:
This position exists to provide financial accounting and reporting services in support of the mission of CDPHE. The services provided include: accounts payable processing and approvals, general ledger, indirect cost recovery assessment, reporting and analysis, enforcement of the state and federal fiscal rules and regulations, department
policies and procedures and application of accounting standards as set forth by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). This position supports the accounts payable staff of all divisions of the department, providing guidance and document approval throughout.

Qualifications

An applicant may meet the minimum qualifications for this job in one of two ways: They may qualify through their work experience alone or through a combination of education and work experience.  

Experience Only:
  • Four (4) years of professional accounts payable accounting experience

OR

Education and Experience:
  • A combination of related education (coursework requires 27 semester hours completed in accounting or auditing) and/or professional accounts payable accounting experience equal to four (4) years
  • Current, valid licensure as a CPA by the Colorado Board of Accountancy will substitute for four (4) years of education

Preferred Qualifications and Essential Competencies:
The preferred experience, competencies and abilities are highly desirable for this position and will be considered in selecting the successful candidate:
  • Relevant State Experience
  • Experience in accounts receivable processing; General ledger reconciliation experience;
  • Strong conceptual knowledge of theory, principles and practices of Accounting;
  • Knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB);
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced deadline oriented environment;  
  • Advanced experience using Microsoft Excel including ability to do pivot tables and data analysis;
