Systems Operations Supervisor

The System Operations and Enhancements team collaborates with IT to uphold and improve disease surveillance systems crucial for monitoring over 60 of Washington State's notifiable conditions. As the System Operations Supervisor, you will oversee the operation and enhancement of these vital systems. Your responsibility lies in maintaining their integrity and functionality, ensuring they reliably collect disease surveillance data, facilitate investigations, and promptly notify relevant stakeholders including Local Health Jurisdictions, Tribal partners, DOH staff, and the CDC.
 
Success in this position is measured by various factors including stakeholder satisfaction, system integrity, adaptability to evolving public health needs, thorough documentation of processes and data flows, and ongoing troubleshooting. Additionally, you may be called upon to support public health emergency preparedness and response activities, contributing to DOH’s Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity grant with the CDC. Your role is pivotal in safeguarding the state's public health infrastructure and responding effectively to emerging health threats.
 
Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with IT partners to ensure the state's disease surveillance system meets business needs.
  • Define system requirements, prioritize work, and ensure timely delivery.
  • Support the creation of system business requirements for data modernization efforts.
  • Address ongoing system issues and facilitate testing of change requests.
  • Ensure interoperability with other data systems and informatics projects.
  • Communication system changes and impacts users and stakeholders.
  • Recruit, assess, hire, onboard, train, and develop informaticians, epidemiologists, and specialists.
  • Perform team Management responsibilities including assigning tasks, providing ongoing leadership and professional development, and evaluating work and performance.
  • Support grant writing, budget management, and other administrative functions.
  • Collaborate with emergency response divisions and other programs on planning and response.

 
You must fulfill one of the following “education and experience” options as defined below: 
 
A degree in public health, public health informatics, health care informatics, information technology, computer science, information science, statistics, or a related field. 
 
Experience working in healthcare or public health involving responsibilities in health informatics, such as leading or conducting informatics projects that may include developing disease surveillance systems, managing databases, and/or implementing data and information standards.
 

  • Option 1: Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of experience
  • Option 2: Master’s degree and 3 years of experience
