Nutritionist

The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) employs Nutritionists in multiple positions across the state. Nutritionists work in ADPH's Nutrition and Physical Activity (NPA) Division and the Women, Infant and Children (WIC) Program.
Nutritionists are responsible for providing health assessments, counseling, and nutrition education in various programs around the state. Nutritionists participate in collaborative initiatives and develop public campaigns that support healthy environments.

Qualifications for Nutritionist positions vary. The minimum requirement is a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Nutrition, Foods and Nutrition, Dietetics, or Community Nutrition.
Additional qualification: Qualified applicants must be eligible for registration by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and must attach their verification statement(s) to the application form. In addition, an application to obtain a license as a Dietitian/Nutritionist by the State of Alabama must be submitted to the State Board of Examiners for Dietetic/Nutrition practice before appointment. Registration by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and licensure by the Alabama Board of Examiners for Dietetic/Nutrition Practice must be attained during the probationary period in order to obtain permanent employment.
