KANAWHA COUNTY
FULL-TIME, TEMPORARY POSITION
Salary: $1,893.58-$3,503.08 Monthly
$22,723.00-$42,037.00 Annually

Nature of Work
Under general supervision, performs work at the full-performance level by conducting technical laboratory tasks and examinations and providing comprehensive assistance to technical or professional personnel in accordance with well-defined and established regulations and procedures. May have lead worker responsibility. Performs related work as required.

Distinguishing Characteristics
Performs technical laboratory tasks used in conducting a variety of tests and providing assistance to technical or professional personnel. Although the procedures are standardized, the work requires the application of aseptic procedures and precise quantitative and qualitative techniques, which require individual responsibility.

Requirements

  • Registers and prepares samples for analysis.
  • Reads, interprets and computes test results.
  • Prepares media and reagents.
  • Responds to inquiries, requests and problems.
  • Sterilizes and discards infectious and disposable waste materials according to Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations.
  • Cleans and sterilizes laboratory glassware and equipment and work area.
  • Maintains adequate supplies.
  • Maintains required records.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of basic laboratory equipment, terminology, techniques and practices.
  • Knowledge of the federal requirements regarding proper disposal of laboratory waste materials.
  • Ability to perform calculations involving the application of basic mathematics.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to set-up and maintain accurate records.

Qualifications

Training: Graduation from a standard high school or the equivalent.
 
Experience: Two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in medical or other laboratory work.

Substitution: Successfully completed study in an accredited college or university which included at least ten semester hours in physical or biological sciences or an associate degree in a laboratory science or medical technology. Completion of a recognized laboratory assistant course from a vocational school may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

PG:  6     $22,723 - $42,037

Market Rate: $37,037
