Main Purpose of Job

This position, which functions as a Risk Manager and Safety Coordinator, identifies risks to the organization by reviewing incidents, accidents, safety alerts, medication errors, and rapid response/code critiques. This position will determine when a deeper study of an event is warranted and ensures a root cause analysis is performed, recommendations are developed, and monitors compliance. The position documents, analyzes, and develops plans to lower workplace injuries; monitors the actions of staff and the environment to check for issues of compliance with existing policies and procedures to assess for potential risk to patient or staff safety; makes recommendations for policy change to reduce the potential for loss before it occurs; and, is responsible for overseeing all facility safety, security, and emergency management operations in accordance with Office of Health Care Quality, Joint Commission, OSHA, and COMAR standards. This position is responsible for oversight of all facility safety, and security of the facility including staff injury follow up, in accordance with Office of Healthcare Quality (OHCQ), The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), OSHA and COMAR regulations and standards. Other duties include, but are not limited to: monitoring staff IWIF injuries, investigating and reporting findings to CEO, coordinating re-education training with staff pertaining to work injury collecting statistical data to show trends in injuries assuring that all hazmat waste is stored properly and securely and monitors the disposal of waste with third party vendor management and coordination of Hospitals compliance with The Joint Commission relating to safety, security, hazmat & waste, fire safety, medical equipment and utility systems manage Bio-Medical Contract that services medical equipment and meets with third party contractors monthly making recommendations to Emergency Management Staff regarding state, federal and local regulations in order for the hospital to reach full compliance serves as the facility Safety Officer. In such investigates employee injuries and educates/re-educates employees on safe work practices participating in Environmental Rounds, and attends Environment of Care, Workplace Safety, and Risk Management meetings working with the facility Emergency Manager and Lead Security Officer to ensure required drills and emergency management plans are up to date

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, social work, psychology, education, counseling, or a related field. Experience: Six years professional experience in health services, three years must have been in Health Services professional clinical or administrative services in areas other than Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities or Addictions and two years must have been at the managerial or supervisory level. Notes: 1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s degree or a Doctorate degree in a health or human services field from an accredited college or university for up to two years of the required general experience. 2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in another field plus an additional year of professional experience in health services for the required education. 3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Administration classifications or Health Services Administration specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess experience with: risk management, including root cause analysis quality assurance, including developing auditing tools utilizing MS Office Suite, including MS Excel at the expert level
