The Tennessee Department of Health's Division of Family Health and Wellness is hiring a Public Health Program Director 3 for the Supplemental Nutrition Program section. This position is responsible for providing leadership and support to the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, State Breastfeeding Program, and Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program under state and federal guidelines to meet Departmental and programmatic goals and objectives. This is an executive service position that will report directly to the Section Chief for Supplemental Nutrition Programs.

Job Overview:

The Tennessee Department of Health's Division of Family Health and Wellness is hiring a Public Health Program Director 3 for the Supplemental Nutrition Program section. This position is responsible for providing leadership and support to the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, State Breastfeeding Program, and Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program under state and federal guidelines to meet Departmental and programmatic goals and objectives. This is an executive service position that will report directly to the Section Chief for Supplemental Nutrition Programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct supervision to two staff, and overall responsibility for fostering a collaborative, results-driven work environment for a team of five.
  • Oversee the development, execution, and expansion of new or existing initiatives of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, State Breastfeeding Program, and Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program.
  • Work closely with staff to devise and implement long-term plans to address programmatic goals ensuring alignment with organizational goals and public health priorities.
  • Oversee federal grant management, including completion of program reports, budgets, work plans, and evaluation plans.
  • Identify and assist with writing new grants, including the development of proposals, work plans, and budgets.
  • Monitor program expenditures/contract spend downs and work with staff to ensure appropriate and accurate charges.
  • Ensure development and timely submission of federally required annual reports for the Women, Infant, and Children Program and Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program.
  • Lead and participate in state advisory groups and councils.
  • Provide guidance on programs to persons within the Department, other state agencies, community agencies, and the public.
  • Assist with action plan development, implementation, and reporting for the Title V/Maternal and Child Health Block Grant.
  • Ability to travel within the US to conferences and meetings a few times a year.
  • Ability to work remotely and in the Nashville, TN office.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Hold a Master's degree and experience equivalent to substantial (five or more years of) full-time increasingly responsible professional health program work including Licensed Registered Dietitian Nutritionist in the State of Tennessee
  • Proven experience in program/project management, preferably in public health settings.
  • Demonstrated leadership and at least two years of full-time supervisory experience.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Knowledge of federal reporting, grant administration, and fiscal management.
  • Knowledge of the Special Supplemental Program for Women, Infants, and Children and Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program
  • Self-started mentality with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
