What you will be doing:
As a Public Health Nurse 2, you’ll have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the health and well-being of the Prince of Wales Island community. You’ll deliver a variety of essential services, including health education, community outreach, vaccinations, pediatric care, and disease prevention. You won’t be alone in this; you’ll have the guidance and support of an experienced Public Health Nurse 3 for complex cases. Your role is primarily based in a vibrant Public Health Center, with occasional travel to nearby areas to provide valuable nursing services to those communities. This position is perfect for dedicated nursing professionals seeking to expand their skills and make a difference in public health.

Sharp Program Eligibility: 
The successful candidate may be eligible for a $60,000 incentive award through the Alaska SHARP 3 program. If selected, the applicant will enter into a contract with the State of Alaska agreeing to live and work in Craig for a period of three years. SHARP participants can choose quarterly student loan repayments or direct payments for the duration of the contract, in addition to their base salary. Most applicants who apply are eligible. Requirements

PG03A2 – Public Health Nurse 2
Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska;
AND
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college or university or Direct Entry Master of Science (MSN) in Nursing from an accredited college or university.

Special Notes:
Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Alaska and requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities, may apply for vacancies in this job class. Applicants qualifying under this option may receive a conditional job offer; however, proof of RN licensure will be required prior to appointment and reporting for duty.

Candidates not actively enrolled, but who can provide proof of acceptance into an accredited Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-to-BSN) bridge program, may apply for vacancies in the Public Health Nurse 1 job class. Continued employment of the successful candidate is contingent upon active enrollment and attendance in the program commencing within six months of initial hire.

Successful performance of this work requires knowledge of principles and concepts of professional nursing, public and community health, and health care systems typically acquired through a course of study resulting in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). Continued employment and advancement from Public Health Nurse I to Public Health Nurse 2 is contingent upon maintaining active enrollment, in good academic standing, and successful completion of an accredited Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-to-BSN) bridge program within twenty-four months of initial hire, including time devoted to completing the enrollment process.

“Training” and “education” are synonyms for the process of acquiring knowledge and skills through instruction. It includes instruction through formal and informal methods (such as classroom, on-line, self-study, and on-the-job), from accredited and unaccredited sources, and long-duration (such as a post-secondary degree) and short-duration (such as a seminar) programs.

“Professional experience” means work that is creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the profession's principles, concepts, theories, and practices; and is performed with the power or right to decide or act according to one's own judgment.

“Progressively responsible” means indicating growth and/or advancement in complexity, difficulty, or level of responsibility.
 

Qualifications

At the time of the interview, please provide the following:
  1.  A copy of a current Registered Nurse License (from any state).
  2. Three (3) professional references we may contact by phone, one (1) of which must be a current or former supervisor.
  3. A copy of academic transcripts (unofficial are okay; please ensure that the institution name/URL is listed on the transcripts) is used to verify that you meet the minimum qualifications.
If chosen for the position, the candidate will be required to provide the following items before employment: 
  1. A copy of a current Alaska Registered Nurse license.
  2.  Proof of Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap), Mumps, Measles, Rubella (MMR), and Varicella immunizations. 
  3. Proof of Hepatitis B (immunity or a signed declination statement).
  4. Annual influenza vaccination or a signed declination statement.
  5. Proof of Tuberculosis screening within past 12 months. 
  6. A copy of your current driver’s license.
