Public Health Consultant 2, Health Educator

Under the direction of the Communicable Disease Service (CDS) – Infection Control, Healthcare, and Environmental Epidemiology (ICHEE) Program, the Health Educator is responsible for providing consultation to public health educators, local health agencies and departmental programs in the planning, organizing, and promoting of public health education or in the planning and organization of educational programs focused on CDC’s Project Firstline Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) curriculum in New Jersey, targeting frontline healthcare providers; focus will be on the prevention of healthcare associated infections (HAIs) as well as infectious disease transmission in healthcare settings. The Public Health Consultant 2, Health Educator, will act as statewide liaison to help organize trainings, demonstrations, facility visits, and webinars regarding CDC’s IPC training. The Health Educator will build upon the previously established regional approach to infection prevention capacity. Evaluates program activities to assess effectiveness and provide future planning and direction. The Health Educator will also work with CDS ICHEE Program staff for field infection prevention expertise as needed. This position requires travel which accounts for 20 percent of the Health Educator’s time.

Preference will be given to candidates who hold either the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES®) or Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES®) credential designated by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. (NCHEC).

NOTE: Applicants must meet one of the following or a combination of both experience and education. Thirty (30) semester hour credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience.

Seven (7) years of comprehensive professional experience in a large-scale community health and/or public health education program; including or supplemented by 30 credit hours in an accredited program in community health education, or public health education.

OR

Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university including or supplemented by 30 credit hours in an accredited program in community health education, or public health education; and three (3) years of the above-mentioned professional experience.

NOTE: "Professional experience" refers to work that is creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the profession's principles, concepts, theories, and practices; and is performed with the authority to act according to one's own judgment and make accurate and informed decisions.

LICENSE:

Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
