What you will be doing:
As the Office Assistant 2 within the Background Check Unit, you will complete a comprehensive national check of criminal and civil registries for those individuals associating with a licensed or certified facility under the Department of Health. This process includes auditing and scanning fingerprint cards and assisting the public by telephone, emails, and faxes.

The Department of Health Background Check Program provides centralized background check support while fulfilling the federal requirements for a national background check standard. We process applications for programs that provide for the health, safety, and welfare of people who are served by the programs administered by the Department.

Requirements

High school diploma or the equivalent.
AND
One year of experience that includes clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.

Substitution:
Education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocation education equal one month of experience).

Special Note:
"High school diploma equivalent" means one of the following: 1) a G.E.D.; 2) completion of any basic adult education course equivalent to 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 course hours per week); 3) acceptance in full standing by an accredited college or university; 4) highest grade of school completed plus an amount of paid or volunteer experience that totals 12 years and includes basic clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.

Some positions in this class may require the incumbent to operate motor vehicles. Such positions require that the applicant possess a regular driver's license and be 18 years of age or older.

Some position in this class may require skill in typing. Recruitment and selection may include this requirement. 

Qualifications

At the time of the interview, please provide the following: 
  1. Three (3) professional references we may contact by phone, one (1) of which must be a current supervisor, if not already provided in the application. 
  2. Last 2 years of performance evaluations.

APSIN CHECK
This position requires using the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN).  A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN.  DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction or who may be a fugitive from justice.  Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance. 

SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONS
For your application to be evaluated, you must answer the Supplemental Questions.  Be specific in your answers and describe how you acquired the relevant experience. Please use complete sentences and proofread your submissions when answering the supplemental questions. Your responses will be considered a writing sample and used to determine which applicants will advance to the interview phase of the recruitment process.

EDUCATION
To verify education is being used to meet and/or support the required minimum qualifications/competencies, you must fill in the Education section of the application. If you have not obtained a degree, please indicate the number of units completed. Copies of transcripts are required to verify educational credentials used to meet or support the minimum qualifications/competencies for a position and are required with each application. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR FOREIGN EDUCATION

If utilizing this education, you must show that the education credentials have been submitted to a private organization that specializes in the interpretation of foreign educational credentials and that such education has been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs or an accredited U.S. state university reports the other institution as one whose transcript is given full value, or full value is given in subject areas applicable to the curricula at the state university. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.  The omission of the required documentation listed will result in an incomplete application, and you will not receive further consideration. 

WORK EXPERIENCE
When using work experience not already documented in your application, please provide the employer's name, your job title, employment dates, and whether you were working full-time or part-time.
