M365 Endpoint Administrator (Systems Engineer I)

Under limited supervision, the staff member will serve as the primary M365 technician consultant in a team environment to support the agency Microsoft O365 tenant, Azure, and Power Platform solution and services with an emphasis on Endpoint Manager Administration. Monitor environments and back-end processes to ensure maximum uptime, efficiency, and functionality. Ensure compliance with state and agency security and IT policies and procedures. Assist on-boarding of end point devices and customer support. Promote agency goals and initiatives.  Promote and support collaborative services through customer service and continuous improvement.  

  • Provide technical support for daily operations of the agency’s Microsoft O365 tenant with a focus on Endpoint Manager, Security and Compliance, and supporting environments. Assist with monitoring and auditing solution to identify gaps, enhanced functionality, compliance, and security. Develop, modify, and maintain scripts and scheduled tasks to collect, modify, and monitor the agency O365 production and test tenant.  Ensure device enrollment and work with IT staff to ensure devices are on-boarded and monitored throughout the device life cycle. Adheres to Information Technology Security and application development standard. Promotes strategic initiatives to improve the agency's overall operation and core values.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with customers, technical staff, management, and vendors.  Partner with CISO and Security Section to ensure appropriate security protocol and polices are implemented and adhered too.  Monitor endpoints in M365 for compliance and work with IT staff to remediate any devices out of compliance.
  • Respond to customer incident and service request tickets within the IT SLA timeframe. Assist with problem resolution and tier III support. Monitor O365 Admin Center for incidents and upcoming outages. Assist other IT Staff to ensure security posture and customer user experience with O365.
  • Prepare and maintain system documentation for systems supported. Provide appropriate administrative documentation and project communication. Maintain awareness of infrastructure technology trends and changes.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Must be self-motivated, team-oriented, work well under limited supervision, and respond to priority tasks as needed following established policies, procedures and guidelines.  Candidates must also be able to cultivate productive working relationships with individuals at all organizational levels, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.  Must be customer-oriented and respond to priority tasks as needed. Some after-hour and weekend work may be required to ensure maximum system uptime and address technical issues impacting production services.

Requirements

State Minimum Requirements:A bachelor's degree in computer science or related field and experience in computer system development and modification. Relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

Qualifications

  • Employee must possess a working knowledge of Microsoft 365 GCC, Security and Compliance tools, Endpoint Manager (Defender and Intune), Identity, Azure, and licensing.   
  • Knowledge of the organization and its IT policies and procedures. 
  • Basic understanding of network concepts, active directory.



Some limited after-hour and weekend work may be required; during emergencies, on call 24 hours a day when activated (agency cellular device is authorized to meet this requirement). Must possess a valid driver's license and a good driving record.  Limited travel to agency facilities throughout the Central Office area in Columbia/Richland and on rare occasions to other agency facilities within the geographic area encompassing the State of South Carolina using personal or State vehicle. Some overnight travel may rarely be required.DRIVING RECORD: If this position requires the applicant to possess a valid driver’s license to operate a state vehicle or personal vehicle, any applicant being considered in the final stages of selection for the position will be required to provide a certified copy of a 10-year driving record.

This position is part of the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control’s Office of Information Technology. The work performed supports DHEC’s mission to improve the quality of life for all South Carolinians by protecting and promoting the health of the public and the environment. Effective July 1, 2024, this position will transfer to the South Carolina Department of Public Health created by Senate Bill 399 which provides for the creation of the Department of Public Health to assume the public health-related functions of DHEC.
