Immunization Provider & Communications Coordinator

The NC Division of Public Health (DPH) works to promote and contribute to the highest possible level of health for the people of North Carolina – Everywhere, Everyday, Everybody.

As a part of DHHS, the Division of Public Health is made of a several sections servicing the citizens of North Carolina. The N.C. Immunization Branch is part of the Women and Children’s Health Section and promotes public health through the identification and elimination of vaccine-preventable diseases like polio, hepatitis B, measles, chickenpox, whooping cough, rubella (German measles), and mumps.

Summary:

The primary purpose of this position is to develop, maintain, and enhance immunization programs in North Carolina by developing, maintaining and disseminating provider-facing and public-facing communication materials. This role builds partnerships with other agencies, collaborates with health care providers and other public health program staff, and private/public stakeholders to raise awareness of the need for immunizations across the lifespan. This position produces recurring presentations, newsletters, website updates, memos, press releases, etc. regarding immunization priorities and the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program. This position reports to the Education, Outreach, and Communication Unit Manager.

  • 60% Communication Asset Development. This position drives the development of all communications including webinars, newsletters and memos for the Immunization Branch staff and NCIP providers as it relates to vaccine ordering, handling, distribution, regulatory changes and clinical guidance.
  • 15% General Unit Support. This position assists with daily operations of the Education, Outreach and Communications unit, including meeting representation and ad hoc communication to branch members and/or providers.
  • 5% Creative & Critical Thinking. This position assists the Unit Manager with creative development of immunization communication campaigns.
  • 10% Graphic Development. This position develops simple yet engaging graphics and tables as needed for newsletters and webinar slides; Canva or similar graphic design tool proficiency required.
  • 5% Administrative Work. This position maintains archives of previous communications, updates SOP documents, maintains a clear file and folder structure within the EOC unit; performs additional administrative tasks as needed.
  • 5% Preparedness. This position supports Immunization Branch emergency preparedness and crisis response efforts as needed.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Teams, and a project management platform of choice (Asana, Trello, Monday, etc.).
  • Ability to anticipate communication needs and proactively produce products in the event of regulatory changes.
  • Ability to direct and guide projects, including short and long-term planning, establishing. objectives and priorities, and conducting periodic analysis and evaluations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse, multi-disciplinary groups in problem solving, consensus development and group decision making; ability to assume either a lead or support role as required.
  • Ability to balance competing needs and interests and to develop compromise and consensus.

Qualifications

Master s degree in Public Health Education or Public Health with a major in public health education from an appropriately accredited institution;
or
Bachelor s degree with a major in health education from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in public health education
or
a related field; or Bachelor s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in public health education;
or
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
