This position is located with the Bureau of Public Information and Regulatory Affairs.

Assists with coordination and processing of Healthcare Quality's enforcement actions, requests for exceptions/variances, requests for citation reconsiderations, and other related projects.

Specific duties include:

Under limited supervision, assists with the coordination and management of enforcement actions, including coordination with respective program areas for correspondence related to enforcement actions, drafting of orders in consultation with respective program areas and the Office of General Counsel, and tracking of enforcement actions. Coordinates management of requests for licensing exceptions/variances. Responsible for logging, tracking, and processing of all exception/variance requests. Communicates with and schedules meetings with requestors and applicable staff concerning exception/variance requests. 


Drafts letters approving or denying exception/variance requests for review by appropriate staff. Ensures appropriate staff are aware of decisions on exception/variance requests. Coordinates management of requests for citation reconsideration. Responsible for logging, tracking, and processing of all requests for reconsideration. Communicates with requestors and applicable staff concerning reconsideration requests. Drafts letters approving or denying reconsideration requests for review by appropriate staff. Coordinates to ensure follow-up action is implemented. Performs other duties as the situation requires, to include but not limited to, assisted in special projects, participates in disaster preparedness and response, and is designated as an essential employee, subject to duty and/or on-call on a 24-hour basis during an emergency.


Requirements

A high school diploma and relevant program experience.


Knowledge of licensing rules and regulations is essential; must have ability to research and present information orally and in writing that is logical, concise, and grammatically correct. Must have a working knowledge of and be proficiently experienced in using applicable computer software programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint, Outlook, etc.) as well as having a basic understanding of database systems. Must be able to interpret compliance history data and initiate staff action to ensure caseloads are efficiently and effectively managed.

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree and relevant program experience. A bachelor's degree (preferably Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health Administration, Physical Science, Natural Science, or related field); two (2) years of experience with administration/enforcement of regulatory programs. 

DRIVING RECORD: If this position requires the applicant to possess a valid driver's license to operate a state vehicle or personal vehicle, any applicant being considered in the final stages of selection for the position will be required to provide a certified copy of a 10-year driving record.

This position is part of the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control’s Bureau of Public Information and Regulatory Affairs. The work performed supports DHEC’s mission to improve the quality of life for all South Carolinians by protecting and promoting the health of the public and the environment. Effective July 1, 2024, this position will transfer to the South Carolina Department of Public Health created by Senate Bill 399 which provides for the creation of the Department of Public Health to assume the public health-related functions of DHEC.
