EH Specialist 5-Chatham

Under minimal supervision, conducts inspections and audits of assigned facilities/sites for compliance with applicable health codes for County Health Department. Reviews and/or prepares applications, permits and technical reports. Investigates and responds to complaints of potential health hazards and requests for service. Serves in a lead role, supervises and plan work of assigned EH staff. 

Depends on qualifications-Starting minimum salary-$66,158.17

All Coastal Health District, County Health Department employees are deemed essential employees in the event of an emergency. As such, you may be called on to participate in an event not limited to but including, staffing a shelter, a Specimen Point of Collection Site (SPOC) and/or Point of Dispensing site (POD). When you are called on to participate, you are expected and it will be a part of your job requirement to participate, whether the emergency occurs during or outside regular work hours.



Requirements

• Plans and coordinates environmental health programs for the assigned area and serves in a lead role supervising and managing assigned staff.
• Provides technical assistance, regulatory interpretation of environmental health laws, training and advocacy to the public, associates, and the regulated community.
 • Plans and conducts inspections and audits of assigned facilities/sites for compliance with applicable health codes.
• Reviews and/or prepares applications, permits and reports of a highly technical nature.
• Initiates, negotiates, and implements public health enforcement actions as appropriate.
• Conducts health related complaint and injury investigations as necessary.
 • Responds to environmental health emergencies and episodes, and/or conducts health and safety evaluations.
 • Has knowledge of EH Emergency Response plan and ESF 8 responsibilities; and Incident Command Structure.
 • May administer local, state, and federal grants, permit funds and provides contractor oversight, as needed.
 • Conducts administrative duties including training, data management, general correspondence, and equipment maintenance.
 • Knowledge of area specific software.
 • Coordinates and implements comprehensive injury prevention and safety programs as needed.
• Manages human resource and employee relations functions.
 • Maintains knowledge of current policies, laws, trends, and developments in the field and applies pertinent new knowledge to performance responsibilities.


Qualifications

Master's degree in Environmental Health, Public Health or related field from an accredited college or university OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university which included the completion of 27 semester hours (or 40 quarter hours) in laboratory science (e.g. chemistry, biology, geology, physics, etc). AND current registration as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist or Sanitarian by the National Environmental Health Association or an equivalent recognized credentialing board AND One year of experience as a PH Envir Compl Specialist 4 (RCP123) or position equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:
• Generalized experience implementing core environmental health programs in a county health department. • Completion of a master’s degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, or related field. • Completion of Managers or Leadership training program • Completion of NIMS ICS 100, 200, 300/400, 700, 800 • Certification as a Food Safety Manager (CFSM) • Holds a current Georgia Level II Inspector Certification for the On-Site Sewage Management Program • Certification as a Pool Operator (CPOFor more information on the State of Georgia Benefits visit http://team.georgia.gov/
