As a Data Quality and Informatics Manager at the Office of Vital Records within the Georgia Department of Public Healthyou will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.

Requirements

  • Serves as a member of the Vital Records management team that implements the office’s strategic direction, policies, objectives, and operational plan to ensure quality service and data are consistently provided to Georgia’s constituents and stakeholders.
  • Advises other Vital Records and DPH leadership on issues, opportunities, and changes to Vital Records’ data management and systems.
  • Manages Vital Records data analysts by providing direction, oversight, and professional development necessary to ensure the team effectively meets its objectives. Responsible for all supervisory activity of data analysts. This includes, but is not limited to, hiring, on-boarding, setting annual goals, evaluating performance, providing corrective action, and approving leave and scheduling requests.
  • Monitors and reviews all Vital Records data to identify issues with quality and completeness, and implements corrective actions and changes when needed to Vital Records’ data management procedures and training.
  • Responsible for maintaining and implementing policies and operational procedures to assure completeness of incoming vital records, and quality of fields contained in vital records.
  • Meets with Vital Records stakeholders, including data recipients, users, and providers, to identify needs and opportunities to collaborate. Develops appropriate solutions that optimize automation and data integrity.
  • Serves as lead for Vital Records data and system modernization efforts, including projects to utilize HL7 FHIR standards to exchange data with recipients such as the CDC National Center for Health Statistics, and vital records data providers.
  • Provides data, reports, dashboards, and other informatics services to the Vital Records office, and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Performs other duties as required by Vital Records leadership team.
  • Standard hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Flexible scheduling is available per DPH policy.
  • Position requires work onsite, with option to telework part of the week per DPH policy.
  • Occasional travel less than 5%.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND Three years experience managing professional level staff
OR 
Seven years of related professional experience AND Three years managing at the level equivalent to area of assignment
OR 
Three years of experience at the lower level (GSM010) or position equivalent.

Note: A combination of education and experience at agency discretion.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Master’s degree in public health, statistics, informatics, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish goals and objectives.
  • Prior management or supervisory experience of data analysts, statisticians, or similar staff.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft SQL to query data and develop reports.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with informatics software and tools.
  • Experience with HL7 FHIR in a public health or healthcare setting and HL7 FHIR certification.

DPH accepts educational credential recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) will be considered. DPH will contact educational institutions to verify degree, diploma, licensure, etc.
