Community and Tribal Engagement Lead

As the Community and Tribal Engagement Lead (MA 5), you will play a crucial role in transforming the way state government engages with Tribes and communities. Reporting to the Council Manager, you will lead and innovate community engagement efforts, ensuring that voices from diverse communities, including communities who have been marginalized, guide our decision-making processes. You will collaborate closely with a variety of partners, including community-based organizations, Tribal organizations, and health justice leaders to create meaningful progress toward shared health equity goals.
Responsibilities Include:
- Supervise outreach and engagement staff, providing mentorship and fostering an inclusive environment.
- Develop and implement dynamic and culturally and linguistically responsive community engagement strategies, ensuring intentional and meaningful interactions with diverse communities.
- Cultivate respectful relationships with community partners, gathering input and feedback to inform Council decisions.
- Lead efforts in developing culturally and politically appropriate processes for interacting with Tribal Nations.
- Collaborate with Council members and staff to meet legislative reporting requirements, centering community and Native voices.
Required Qualifications
Experience defined below may have been gained through paid or unpaid activities. Please ensure any relevant experience defined below is outlined in your cover letter, resume, and/or applicant profile.
- Option 1: Eight (8) or more years of experience leading, developing, or coordinating projects or programs that focus on social justice, health justice or health equity, addressing health inequities, Tribal engagement, community engagement/organizing, community participatory research, and/or working with Tribes or historically marginalized groups.
OR
- Option 2: A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in public health, community health, social work, health communications, or a related field; AND five (5) or more years of experience leading, developing, or coordinating projects or programs that focus on social justice, health justice or health equity, addressing health inequities, Tribal engagement, community engagement/organizing, community participatory research, and/or working with Tribes or historically marginalized groups.
AND, in addition to either option above:
- Experience in the following:
- Building partnerships and working collaboratively with diverse groups of people, including experience facilitating gatherings.
- Planning health or community engagement programs/projects, including experience with planning, implementation, monitoring, assessment, and using lessons learned to evolve the program over time.
