Coastal Zone Consistency Project Manager (EHM II)

This position is located in the Coastal Zone Consistency Section in the
 
  • Serves as a Project Manager in the Coastal Zone Consistency Section
  • Under limited supervision, performs policy-based reviews of requests for consistency with the SC Coastal Zone Management Program
  • Ensures State and Federal Consistency reviews follow established timeframes, processes, and procedures in coordination with partner programs and agencies
  • Conducts occasional follow up of decisions to ensure compliance with the DHEC OCRM coastal zone consistency certification requirements
  • Provides professional guidance and assistance to local governments, land developers, consultants, public officials, and citizens


Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in the natural or physical sciences or a related scientific field
  • OR an associate degree in the natural or physical sciences or related technical field and at least one (1) year of environmental health or related experience
  • OR a high school diploma or GED and at least three (3) years of environmental health or related experience 
Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the council for Higher Education Accreditation.

  • Must maintain a professional personal appearance
  • Must be willing to participate in emergency preparedness and disaster relief/recovery in accordance with Department policy
  • Routine in-state travel and occasional travel may be required

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the statutes, regulations, policies and information sources related to the SC Coastal Management Program
  • Knowledge of the federal Coastal Zone Management Act

This position is part of the South Carolina Department of Environmental Control’s (Division/Bureau). The work performed supports DHEC’s mission to improve the quality of life for all South Carolinians by protecting and promoting the health of the public and the environment. Effective July 1, 2024, this position will transfer to the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services created by Senate Bill 399 which provides for the creation of the Department of Environmental Services to assume the environmental-related functions of DHEC.
