Requirements

Under general supervision, diagnosis, treats, prevents, and controls disorders of the teeth and mouth including gums and related oral structures of patients. Performs diagnostic services to include but not limited to exams and X-Rays; treatment such as cleanings, fillings, extractions, crowns, etc.  May treat diseases of nerve, pulp and other dental tissues affecting vitality of teeth. Emphasizes prevention and early detection of oral diseases by teaching patients the importance of proper oral care at home and periodic visits to the dentist. May evaluate dental health needs of public health clients and recommend program improvements.  Provide assessment, treatment and management of dental problems associated with Ryan White patient population.   Participates in research activities related to dental issues of high risks populations.  Assist with grant activities as assigned by the Oral Health Manager.
• Greet patients and determine the purpose of their visit.
• Examine patients, determine necessary treatment based on clinical findings and prognosis, and discuss proposed treatment options.
• Provide provisional diagnoses, when necessary, for emergency and routine referrals, and document findings in the patient’s dental record according to established guidelines.
• Document and review patients’ medical history and physical status.
• Complete dental assessments in accordance with accepted practices and within established timeframes.
• Ensure radiographs of acceptable diagnostic quality are taken using appropriate radiation protection methods and correctly interpret radiographs.
• Perform general dentistry procedures, including restorative treatments and root canals.
• Schedule routine dental treatments and recall examinations within established timeframes
• Initiates and completes treatment within established timeframes.
• Provide prophylaxis, fluoride treatments, and dental sealants when necessary.
• Train dental staff on proper infection control procedures and monitor ongoing compliance.
• Follow universal precautions when treating patients.
• Report and document all hazardous or infectious exposures in accordance with established guidelines.
• Maintain accurate dental records and complete required reports of patient treatment.
• Instructs patients on personal oral hygiene, the importance of periodic dental examinations, the benefits of fluoride and dental sealants, and the relationship between diet and    tooth decay.
• Creates and maintains a high-performance environment characterized by positive leadership and strong team orientation.
• Communicate with staff regarding progress toward defined goals.
• Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reviewing professional literature and attending seminars and conferences; applies relevant       knowledge to daily responsibilities.
• Make clinical decisions in the absence of the Dental Supervisor.
• Assists with inventory management, including tracking and preparing supply lists for the clinics.
• Supports the Dental Supervisor by preparing documents to monitor and improve clinical efficiency, as needed.
• May supervise paraprofessional staff.

Qualifications

Doctorate or professional degree in dentistry from an accredited College or University AND One year of experience AND current Georgia license to practice dentistry.NOTE:  Thank you for your interest in DKPH.
