This Vacancy is located in the Ancillary Department of Eastern Louisiana Mental Hospital System in Jackson, LA (East Feliciana Parish). ELMHS is the largest 24-hour, multi-site, state psychiatric complex, comprised of residential, outpatient and inpatient services. 

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of experience or training in the maintenance or repair of mechanical or electronic office equipment, precision machinery, or electronic/electrical systems; OR

Two years of experience or training in the installation, repair, or maintenance of computer equipment or systems (hardware and/or software); OR

Possession of a CompTIA A+ Certification plus one of the following:

1. One year of experience in the maintenance or repair of mechanical or electronic office equipment, precision machinery, or electronic/electrical systems; OR
2. One year of experience in the installation, repair, or maintenance of computer equipment or systems (hardware and/or software).

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every six semester hours earned from an accredited college or university in electronics or computer science will substitute for one year of the required experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess an appropriate Federal Communications Commission (FCC) radio-telephone license when working with marine and aviation transmitting equipment or with radar.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

50% Managed and maintains the entirety of the ELMHS Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), Safety Surveillance System (hardware and software). 

  • This includes but is not limited to:
  1. Specification
  2. Design
  3. Purchase
  4. Installation
  5. Maintenance of the system
  • Reads and interprets electric and electronic schematics and mechanical layouts during installation and maintenance of the CCTV viewing platform and verifies proper operation
  • Recommends and conducts system and platform expansion by the installation of updates and programs, addition of components, and all associated peripheral items associates such as new cable, cable terminations, and electrical conduit as necessary
  • Conducts diagnostic testing, repair, or obtains cost estimates for installation and/or repair of all CCTV equipment 
  • Performs preventative maintenance operations as required on a periodic basis. Provides visual inspection of monitoring equipment, checking for safety defects and repairing as required

20% assist the Communication Department Technical Specialist in the diagnostic assessment and repair of equipment and supporting components assigned to the department 

20% Coordinates through the Communication Department Director with the office of Telecommunication Services (OTS) as primary Liaison for computer and network services, the CCTV Safety Surveillance System, and all related activities

5% maintains an inventory log of all equipment associated with the CCTV system, and maintains critical parts for immediate and emergency repairs of Security Surveillance Equipment. Pulls video footage as requested 

5% Participate in educational trainings that are mandatory for accreditation and licensure of the facility

Perform all other duties assigned by supervisor/designee to maintain continuity and quality. Accreditation and licensure requirements. Perform all other duties assigned by supervisor but not listed, for the smooth operation of the unit/building and/or the facility

Maintains a current, valid, and unencumbered motor vehicle operator’s license

Adheres to all rules, regulations, policies and procedures of LOH, OBH, Eastern Louisiana Metal Health System and Civil Service

This position will be filled as an Electronic Technician.

If filled as a Job Appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a Probational Appointment should funding become available
