Main Purpose of Job

This full-time Public Health Emergency Planner position will focus on the essential work of public health emergency preparedness. The main purpose of this position will be to plan, coordinate, and execute activities for actual events and training exercises. This position will also create and update emergency plans, lead training sessions and drills, ensure inventory management, assist with communicable disease investigations, as well as collaborate with state, regional, and local partners on response efforts.

Effective communication is key in this role, requiring strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills to interact with staff, partner agencies, and the residents of Worcester County. Additionally, strong organizational skills are essential for maintaining thorough documentation of all emergency preparedness activities, both quantitative and qualitative. This detailed record-keeping will support the alignment of response with public health capabilities and grant requirements.

The selected applicant must be willing and able to work and travel to all Worcester County Health Department sites.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of professional experience in assisting in the coordination of a health-related program(s) or referring people to governmental and private resources.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Administration classifications or Civil Affairs Specialist specialty codes in the health-related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess:
  • Experience developing and updating preparedness and response protocols, plans, procedures and guidelines using an all hazards approach.
  • Experience planning, designing, and conducting exercises and drills and conjunction with other agencies including after action reviews.
  • Experience participating in emergency preparedness committees.
