Senior Account Clerk

Senior Account Clerk is the first line supervisory level class in the clerical accounting series. Incumbents perform the more difficult and complex clerical accounting work and supervise other clerks performing clerical accounting tasks. Incumbents may work for a professional accountant; supervise and participate in the compiling and recording of financial transactions; distribute materials, labor, equipment and indirect costs from time and work reports and other documents; explain financial and assessment procedures and accounting requirements to employees and the public; audit budgetary classifications of expenditure documents; prepare periodic reports in the application of bookkeeping and accounting principles; prepare and maintain redemption tax records; gather statistical data and prepares worksheets for budget estimates; audit and distribute receipts and revenues to proper accounts; maintain accounts receivable subsidiary ledgers; and utilize data processing printouts and personal computer.

The current vacancies are with the Health & Human Services Agency Department; however, the list established from this recruitment may be used for future vacancies in other departments.

Interviews and Hiring Process

The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below. 
  • Job Offer and Background Process begins shortly after the interview phase.
  • Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
  • Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date. If you are not selected for this interview process, you may have the opportunity to compete for future vacancies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Two (2) years as an Account Clerk with the County of San Diego; 
  • OR, Three (3) years of work experience performing responsible clerical accounting work, bookkeeping, fiscal, or statistical assignments; 
  • OR, Completion of twelve (12) semester units in accounting at an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency, AND one (1) year of experience performing responsible clerical accounting work, bookkeeping, fiscal, or statistical assignments.

Note: If you are using your education to qualify, you must submit a copy of your school transcripts. If your diploma, transcripts or certificate of foreign equivalency is on file in the Department of Human Resources, you do not need to resubmit this information.

Condition of Employment

As part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Qualified candidates will be placed on a six (6) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment and supplemental applications.
