Job Description



The Utah State Hospital is seeking a qualified Neuropsychologist to work in Provo, UT to work in the treatment of mentally ill patients in our beautiful inpatient facility.  In addition, candidates should be interested and comfortable providing didactics in a broad range of neuropsychology topics, have completed a two year fellowship in neuropsychology and be board certified or working towards board certification in neuropsychology.

Principal Duties 
As a Neuropsychologist, you will provide professional psychological services in the areas of diagnostic testing and assessment, treatment plan development and implementation, program development and implementation, coordination of services and other related activities. The current position will work with adults in both a civil and forensic psychiatric setting, however, candidates with experience conducting evaluations of pediatric populations and who are comfortable supervising psychology trainees working with pediatric populations are preferred. Interested candidates should be comfortable and have some experience with supervision of trainees of all levels (practicum students, interns and post doctoral fellows).

The Ideal Candidate will be:

  • licensed as a Psychologist, eligible to practice in the state of Utah.
  • able to competently provide diagnosis and therapeutic intervention.
  • experienced working with mentally ill individuals in an inpatient setting.
  • experienced in providing consultation, expert advice, and testimony.
  • experienced in providing individual, group, or family counseling.
  • knowledgeable regarding court/hearing rules, procedures and protocol.
Responsibilities:
  • Develops and implements treatment plans to help clients mobilize inner capacities and resources to improve social functioning.
  • Documents client/patient progress and revises treatment plans as required; completes administrative paperwork.
  • Provides consultation, makes recommendations, gives appropriate advice, and/or facilitates decisions related to public information.
  • Consults with others to discuss treatment plans, new or unusual situations, findings, options, and recommendations on client/patient cases.
  • Be competent in applying (or willing to learn) a variety of evidence based psychotherapeutic interventions for those with serious and pervasive mental illnesses (e.g. CBT for psychosis, ACT for psychosis, Prolonged Exposure, DBT, etc.) 
  • Have experience and/ or interest in supervising students and early career clinicians (e.g., graduate level practicum students, predoctoral interns, postdoctoral fellows.) 
  • Supervises subordinate personnel including: hiring, determining workload and delegating assignments, training, monitoring and evaluating performance, and initiating corrective or disciplinary actions.
  • Selects, administers and interprets biofeedback, psychological tests and other psychological training and assessments.

Retirement - Utah Retirement Systems (URS):

    1. Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k))
    2. Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan. Your employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary to a 401(k) plan only.  
    3. Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.

Paid Time Off:
  • Annual leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual, 4 hours sick).
  • Annual leave amounts increase with years of service. 
  • We have 12 paid holidays.

  • Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
