Main Purpose of Job

This position is the lead level of paraprofessional work in the Beneficiary Services/Recipient Relations Unit, which includes the training of Medical Care Program Associates. Duties include responding to inquiries and complaints from beneficiaries and providing liaison services to health care providers, insurance companies or other governmental agencies. This position is responsible for overseeing and monitoring calls on an 800 hotline for Medical Assistance beneficiaries and researching and resolving any problems presented by the beneficiaries. This position requires thorough knowledge and demonstrated application of Medical Assistance policies, regulations and guidelines and requires the exercise of discretion and independent judgment directly related to Medical Assistance Program data and situations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of clerical experience applying policies in a medical care, health insurance or federal or State entitlement program.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional general clerical experience on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:
  • Experience directing a staff; coaching staff members on improving performance using best practices, supporting staff in providing Medicaid recipients with current and accurate information on a daily basis to achieve program goals  
  • Experience accurately applying or interpreting and analyzing Medicaid regulations, policies, and procedures 
  • Experience working with a supervisor to manage resources and workflows to ensure operational goals are successfully met   
  • Experience using multiple data systems including MMIS, HBX and E+E  
  • Experience with Medical Assistance eligibility and billing   
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word
