Do you have experience as a sample processor? Do you have experience supervising other employees? This is your chance to be a Laboratory Technician Lead for the Utah Public Health Laboratory's Newborn Screening (NBS) Program.

Principle Duties
  • Supervise the NBS samples accessioning process and staff.
  • Approve timesheets and manage schedules for the lab tech team.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff.
  • Maintain accurate instrument maintenance records and training logs.
  • Assist the public and communicates with other clinics and labs regarding technical questions.
  • Provide Quality Assurance (QA) tracking for specimen acceptability logs, participate in QA meetings, monitor sample volumes and accessioning TAT.
Ideal Candidate
We are seeking someone who has:
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
  • Experience working in a CLIA regulated lab.
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Solid communications skills.
  • Is proficient with the use of various Microsoft Office platforms.
  • Can type at least 30 words-per-minute.

Retirement - Utah Retirement Systems (URS):
  • Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7/1/2011 are in the Tier I Public Employees System.
  • Employees hired on or after 7/1/2011 and who have never been in the URS retirement system have two options for retirement in the Tier II System.
    • Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k))
    • Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary to a 401(k) plan only.  
  • Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.
Paid Time Off:
  • Annual leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual, 4 hours sick).
  • Annual leave amounts increase with years of service.
  • We have 12 paid holidays.

Qualifications

  • Due to the nature and types of testing samples this position requires compliance with the Utah Department of Health & Human Services Employee Immunization policy.
  • Continued employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a fingerprinting background check.
  • Risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., working around operating machines, working with contagious diseases or hazardous chemicals, etc.
  • Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.
